Your Chapter Needs You
by Doug Brown, VP Volunteers & Recognition, Chapter planning
Attention all STC members! Your chapter needs you! Some great things are happening for the 2007-08 membership season. STC Houston is looking for more ways to get involved in the community, increasing scholarship awards, and of course, bringing outstanding presentations and discussions to the monthly meetings to keep you at the top of your professional game.
As a member, you have many, many opportunities available to help shape your society chapter. Several leadership committees still need assistance, including the Outreach and Education committees, and, believe it or not, the annual Awards Banquet planning is starting to heat up already. One very important position in particular is a Programs Manager with the Education Committee. You would use your vast connections and influence in the technical writing community to secure presenters and help make decisions about monthly programs. In other words, you’d get to control what the rest of us see at the monthly meetings!
There are also many opportunities to assist with smaller, one-time activities with the various committees. No level of assistance is too small, and all help is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at http://firstname.lastname@example.org, and we’ll hook you up with the appropriate committee VP. Thanks in advance, and see you at the next monthly meeting!
