Past and Future Science Writing Contest Judges:
University of Houston needs your help. Please volunteer as a judge for the Science Writing Contest (SWC) of the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston (SEFH). Judging for the writing contest will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2013 at the Hilton University of Houston at University of Houston Main. Please RSVP at your earliest convenience before Monday, February 18.
If you can only judge in the morning (9 to noon), we’d still love to have you, because the morning session is when we judge the largest number of entries. The finalists are chosen after lunch.
Our judges frequently tell us how much fun they have in the judging. The typical array of judges includes physicians, scientists, engineers, technical writers, medical writers, science writers, business professionals, and professors. Many of the judges represent major Houston organizations and corporations–a great networking and community service opportunity.
The SEFH is sponsored by the University of Houston, the University of Houston-Downtown, Opportunity Houston, the Engineering, Science & Technology Council of Houston, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and the Consumer Energy Alliance.
Houston boasts the fourth largest such fair in the world. The fair serves students in grades 7-12 from a 16-county region. For an overview of the Science Fair, go to http://www.sefhouston.org/.
Please RSVP by replying to this email as soon as possible by Monday, Feb. 18 if you are willing and able to serve as a judge. Once you do, we’ll send an additional email messages asking your dietary requirements (if any), providing directions to the university, and answering other questions you may have.
If your child is a participant in the writing contest, please let us know what grade level the child entered so we can put you to work in a different section.
Please also forward this email to those you know who may wish to be a judge of the essay contest.
Many thanks to returning judges and to those who will join us for the first time. We look forward to seeing you.
