Have I got a proposal for you…
by Jessica Dickerson, Vice President of Education & Programs
“I propose that technical writers have skills that are transferrable to proposal writing,” says Evalyn Shea, founder and owner of Shea Writing and Training Solutions. “Technical writers can expand their career opportunities by working on proposal teams, whether it is helping out in their organization or finding opportunities as a contract writer.”
Evalyn notes that the strategies and methods for proposal writing and technical writing are the same: we gather information about requirements and the audience, we interview subject-matter experts, we write, edit, revise, edit again, proofread, and publish. We’ll explore some of the nuances of proposal writing, introduce acronyms and jargon used by proposal professionals, and discuss tools and aids that proposal writers and technical writers can use. One of these tools is a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis. Together, we’ll perform a SWOT analysis and determine how this information would be used by the writers on the proposal team.
The program meeting will be at the Holiday Inn Select at Greenway Plaza, 2712 Southwest Freeway (on the southbound feeder of SH 59).
