Keith Lynip asks a very important question: Is there such a thing as organizational cognitive load? As technical communicators, we don’t write to entertain. We write to educate. In order to produce the best educational materials, we need to be aware of concepts like cognitive load.
Keith Lynip, shares the following thought about cognitive load as it relates to organizations:
“Organizations are often still operating as if the fundamental challenge to overcome is information scarcity. That is not the right focus. The focus needs to be on putting in place a total learning and performance strategy and infrastructure that minimizes extraneous load, maximizes germane load, and thus leaves more total mind share for organizational innovation.”
