By Cindy Pao, Volunteer Coordinator (and President)

It’s Cindy at STC Houston. I’m wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

You know how I keep saying that STC Houston is always looking for volunteers? We are. Then I tell you that you can make new connections? Meet new people? Pick up some new skills? Improve skills you don’t use often? Do something different? All those are true, too.

STC Houston is THE place for you!

We’d like to add a program, but we need a manager. We need someone who can coordinate informational interviews as a means of mentoring.

Here’s some background: In the March, 2012, issue of Intercom, Karen Rempel wrote about the STC Canada West Coast Information Interview Service. She described it as a mini mentoring program. Rempel said, “. . . an information interview requires less of a time commitment from both parties and can often provide adequate information to give a new writer a good enough sense of the field of technical communication to decide whether and how to proceed.”1

Consider this job if you like matching things, are looking for a volunteer job that you can do virtually, or have a special place in your heart for mentoring.

If you’d like to talk with me about this – or any of our other volunteerpositions, send me an email at volunteers@stc-houston.org.
