HCA Holiday Mixer Review

by Linda King, STC Houston President

The holiday party hosted by the Houston Communication Association (HCA) on November 29 was as big an event as promised. Approximately 800 people attended to power-network, prospect for career opportunities, learn about local organizations, enjoy the food and beverages, and groove to the musical entertainment.

During the initial 2-hour dedicated networking period, STC Houston leaders Alyssa Fox, Yvonne Wade Sanchez, Debra Page, Rick Sanchez, and I manned an STC table to promote our organization. By arriving early, we were able to claim a table in a prime spot as folks entered the networking room. We saw a few familiar faces and hundreds of new ones. Many people stopped at our table to learn something about STC for the first time and to network with us. We dispensed many business cards, and several folks took our STC flyers to guide them to our website for more information and membership applications.

After working hard at our table, we enjoyed a wonderful and unusual performance of Christmas songs by the Salvation Army singing and dancing troop. What a treat! They are delightful entertainers. And for those with more modern musical taste, two bands performed for their listening and dancing pleasure.

All in all, this was a great initiation for STC Houston as an active member in HCA. At the next HCA event, we hope that our chapter members can come out in force to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
