Outreach Update

by Cathy Bettoney, Vice President of Outreach and Planning

If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to serve the community, check out our wonderful options.

Girl Scout Career & Tech Fair Volunteers Needed

We are continuing to prepare for the presentation on job interview skills and résumé writing. We will offer this presentation at the Girl Scout Career & Tech Fair at University of Houston’s Cullen College of Engineering on Saturday, March 29. Members will also be stationed in a booth to answer questions about technical writing as a career. In the afternoon, STC members will join a panel discussion with other career professionals.

We still need volunteers for the information booth and to help create the presentation (this can be done by email). If you’d like to help, please email me at outreach@stc-houston.org.

Committee Manager Needed

We still need a committee manager for community service. Most of this job can be done by phone and email.

Student Mentors Needed

We have a volunteer working with Alvin High School to offer information about technical writing as a career and possibly to offer help writing résumés. If you can see yourself contributing time to a high school near you, email me at outreach@stc-houston.org.

Magazines and Books Needed

The Seafarer’s Center welcomes any magazines that you want to recycle. We checked to see whether a recent offering of Vogue issues would be of any use, and were assured that “a pretty girl is a pretty girl.” Send us any magazines or books that you no longer need.
